The nutrients that we absorb from what we eat and drink can have an enormous impact on how our body functions and how we feel.
Food and Diet
Nutritional therapy is primarily the use of diet and food to :-
- Help you improve your sense of well-being.
- Help you achieve optimal health.
- Help you reduce the risk of developing disease.
- Help you cope with busy 21st Century lifestyles.
Supplements
Unfortunately these days, often the food that we eat contains less nutrients than it did in the past. That, together with the weakened digestive systems that many of us have from our stressful modern lives, means that no matter how good our diet we may not be getting all the nutrients that we require. Consequently in many cases supplement programmes can help make up the shortfall and are recommended where appropriate.
Functional tests
Sometimes nutritional therapy can also involve the use of functional testing to help determine underlying biochemical imbalances. Examples of these tests include allergy testing, stool analysis, adrenal stress test, and hormone measuring tests. Most tests are non invasive - for example, saliva or stool and samples can often be taken in your own home. Samples are sent to reputable laboratories in the UK or US for analysis. In some cases private health insurance may cover the cost of these tests.
Lifestyle advice
How our body functions depends not only on the nutrients we consume but on a whole host of other factors. One of the most important is exercise. General advice is therefore provided about exercise, environmental factors, stress management and other lifestyle issues.
